Short answer: be listed, be specific about what you need, and give people a concrete next step. Most nonprofits are invisible locally not because people do not care but because nobody knows they exist.
Start with the free listing. A Basic listing costs nothing, forever. There is no reason for any local nonprofit not to be findable.
Ask for something specific. "Support us" converts nobody. "We need four people on Saturday morning to sort donations" converts. Specific asks with a date and a place are the ones people say yes to.
Local businesses are your best partners. Many want to support something local and do not know who to approach. Being visible in the same place they are makes that introduction happen.
Events are how people meet you. Someone who came to one event is dramatically more likely to give or volunteer later.
Where the plans fit. Honestly, most community groups never need to pay us. Basic is free and covers being findable. If you run something at real scale and want stronger placement, the paid tiers exist, but nobody should feel pushed.
